The National Association of Purchasing Management--Greater New Orleans, Inc. (NAPM-GNO) is a professional organization comprised of purchasing, materials, and supply management personnel. NAPM-GNO has been serving Southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast since 1924. It is one of 185 affiliates of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) which has a total membership of over 48,000. For its superior programs and service to its members, NAPM-GNO was given an Affiliate Excellence Award by ISM in 2002 and 2003. Only about 10% of the ISM affiliates receive this award every year. NAPM-GNO exists to provide its members with professional and personal development in essential attitudes, skills, and knowledge that is needed to excel in the field of purchasing and supply management. NAPM-GNO educates its members on current and emerging techniques, processes, and practices needed for continued success and profitability. Its members benefit greatly from networking with their colleagues, which enhances employment opportunities. As a member, you have many opportunities to meet with others in your profession. Our monthly dinner meetings make it easy to get together for informal 'shop talk', and exchange ideas and information. Active participation in one or more our committees will bring you closer contact with our key people and help you develop leadership skills. Membership in ISM opens lines of communication to 48,000 other purchasing and materials management professionals in the business, government, and academic sectors. ISM's annual regional and international conferences give you the opportunity to keep abreast of the latest technology, processes, and upcoming trends. ISM's Principles and Standards of Purchasing Practice, first adopted in 1923, remains one of the strongest and outstanding ethical models in modern business. ISM established the Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) program on June 1, 1974. It helps recognize procurement as a critical function with high educational standards, ethics, and measures of ability and performance. Among the academic and the business communities, it has earned high recognition and respect and helped identify the purchasing professional as a key management team member.
